Parenting Coordination

Dr Ellis has been a qualified Parenting Coordinator since 2021.

Parenting coordination is a child‑focused, post‑separation intervention that assists parents in implementing court orders or parenting plans and managing ongoing parenting disputes. The parenting coordinator does not “take sides”; rather, they assist the parents in focusing on the children’s needs, improving communication, reducing conflict, and making day‑to‑day decisions within the framework of existing orders. This can include clarifying and operationalising orders, facilitating joint problem‑solving around practical issues (for example, handovers, school events, holidays, health and extracurricular activities), and, where authorised, making limited recommendations or determinations on minor disputes.

The overarching aim of parenting coordination is to provide a structured, low‑conflict pathway for parents to resolve recurring issues so that children experience greater stability, predictability, and emotional safety.
